Following is a look at 2019’s 14th Annual educational conference!
Over 250 attendees participated in the 2019 Immunization Conference held at the Monroeville Convention Center. The conference is a vital educational and informative networking event.
Charles R. Rinaldo, PhD, University of Pittsburgh, Professor, and Chair, Infectious Diseases and Microbiology, Graduate School of Public Health, Professor, Pathology, School of Medicine, describes “Vaccines for the prevention and cure of HIV Infection: Ending the epidemic. He was our kick-off speaker at the 14th annual Allegheny County Immunization Conference.
Lee H. Harrison, MD, University of Pittsburgh, Professor Epidemiology, Infectious Diseases and Microbiology, Graduate School of Public Health, Associate Chief of Epidemiology and Education, School of Medicine provides and update on Vaccine for Bacterial Meningitis. National, State and local immunization rates were reviewed as well discussing opportunities for helping patients better understand herd immunity.
Donald B. Middleton, MD, Professor Family Medicine, UPMC St. Margaret, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine provides an update on the 2019 – 2020 Influenza Vaccination. Dr. Middleton discusses his work with his patients and how he educates them on the need for protection at the 2019 Immunization Conference.
2019 Poster Review Session
New last year was an opportunity to share additional scholarly work regarding immunizations within Western Pennsylvania. The four inaugural posters and their presenters are shown below. Based on the overwhelming response to this new addition, we look to further expand this educational exchange opportunity at future programs.
Ms. Andrea Collins provided an update titled: “ALLEGHENY COUNTY SCHOOL IMMUNIZATION SURVEY, 2018 – 2019”
Ms. Jennifer Elil provided an update titled: “PROMOTING HEPATITIS A VACCINATION WITHIN VULNERABLE POPULATIONS IN PITTSBURGH, PA.”
Ms. Claire Steiner provided an update titled: “AN EVIDENCE-BASED PROTOCOL TO IMPROVE HPV VACCINE INITIATION RATES AT A COUNTY IMMUNIZATION CLINIC.”
Ms. Nicole Fazio provided an update titled: “EVALUATIONS OF INTERACTIVE VIRTUAL REALITY CONVERSATIONS TO IMPROVE PRIMARY CARE PROVIDERS’ RECOMMENDATION QUALITY FOR HPV VACCINE AND SUBSEQUENT HPV VACCINE RATES”
Final Comments from last year’s Immunization Coalition Conference:
